The goal of the LSUHSC CMTV is to establish a multi-faceted, collaborative Center comprised of faculty members who direct independent, but interactive, research programs in molecular and tumor virology. Within the CMTV, senior faculty members at the rank of Professor support and help to develop the research programs and academic careers of the junior level faculty members. To this end, these senior mentors are joined by an External Advisory Committee of three internationally recognized virologists and an Internal Advisory Committee of additional NIH-funded investigators at LSUHSC.

The COBRE-supported Center for Molecular and Tumor Virology includes an Administrative Core for administrative, clerical, fiscal, and secretarial support of the PIs and a Molecular Analysis Core that provides services, reagents, and instrumentation essential for the daily research undertakings. The Molecular Analysis Core provides technical support and major items of equipment that enhance the research activities of all members of the CMTV. A Bioinformatics Core is under development.
