Human Papillomavirus type 16 E7 oncoprotein is well-known for its ability to bind to Retinoblastoma protein and target it for degradation; however, its role in enabling the virus to circumvent the innate immune system has not yet been fully elucidated.  My goal is to study the interactions between E7 and the innate immune system that ultimately result in viral persistence, specifically how E7 interacts with the interferon respsonse.
